FUNCTIONAL REHABILITATION OF THE HISTORIC COMPLEX OF THE OLD SQUARE IN SALDAÑA (PALENCIA-SPAIN)

MARCH 2018

BASIC AND IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT

ESPACIO DE ARQUITECTURA STUDIO

COLLABORATION -Alberto Martinez, Sergio Cabal, Alberto Galán-

The Plaza Vieja, a Historic-Artistic Site since 1995, is the backbone of the tourist visit to the village of Saldaña, dating back to the X-XI centuries, although the current structure corresponds to the sixteenth century.

In this context, the aim is to improve the use and current conditions of the square, since due to the passage of time, they do not allow an adequate use.

The intervention is understood to be complete, with the reform of the supply networks, drainage, public lighting, furniture and paving. Pedestrianization is proposed, not in a homogeneous way, but by degrees of application, attending to the specific needs of each area and its relationship with the rest of the urban area.  Strictly pedestrian sectors will appear, others of coexistence, and others with mixed traffic. The physical treatment of each level will be different, both in the types of pavements and in the lighting and functional systems.
